Chapter 1 – will introduce you to the basics of programming and familiarize you with the keywords and features of VBA

Chapter 2- will introduce you to the Excel Object Model which will build upon the knowledge learned in chapter 1 and cover specifics features to work with Excel workbooks and worksheets

Chapter 3- will introduce you to design forms so that you can create a user interface consisting of buttons and other elements.

Chapter 4- will teach you basic design and error handling techniques as well as how to use the built in debugging tools to troubleshoot your program.

Chapter 5- You’ll design and create an application to create Expense Reports from a list of expenses.

Chapter 6- You’ll design and create an application that allows a user to write a journal entry in a normal format but will export there entry to the QuickBooks IIF format for importing into QuickBooks accounting software

Chapter 7-You’ll design and create an application that applies Benford’s law to a list of invoice amounts.

Author Information

Derek Harlan is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with nearly a decade of experience in the accounting and financial reporting. Prior to this he held various roles in the Information Technology industry ranging from customer desktop support to systems management and began computer programming at the age of 10.  He holds both a Bachelors & Masters of Science degrees in Accounting from University of Illinois at Chicago. Derek lives with his wife and son in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois where he tinkers with an old IBM 5150 and enjoys working on 80’s era computers.
